Fire Rated Windows and Doors

Fire-rated windows and doors are essential to help stop the spread of a potential fire as well as provide ample time for the occupants within and adjacent to the building to be able to evacuate safely before the arrival of emergency services.

Fire-rated windows and doors are made from non-combustible materials which means they act as a block to reduce the chances of a fire spreading throughout the inside and outside of your building, with different levels of fire resistance available.

Government guidance on fire protection compliance differs depending on a range of factors relevant to the design, layout, construction and daily use of your property.

Government Guidance on Fire Protection

The UK Government’s Approved Document B on fire safety (Buildings other than Dwellings) states as a requirement, “The amount of thermal radiation that falls on a neighbouring building from window openings and other unprotected areas in the building on fire is not enough to start a fire in the other building.”

It is also worth noting that, “In a building with a storey 18m or more in height, any insulation product, filler material (such as the core materials of metal composite panels, sandwich panels, and window spandrel panels) used in the construction of an external wall should be class A2-s3, d2 or better.”
